Gabriel De Guzman (b. 2003) writes music that is inspired by the everyday experiences, concepts and major life events that are relatable to any listener or performer. Drawing on his own experiences and life, De Guzman's works explores the construction of combining modern-contemporary techniques with motivic, driven melodies. De Guzman originally started composing music in his early high school years. Under the alias of "SugarBagels", De Guzman often composed music on the coding website scratch.mit.edu for people to listen, use in their projects or gain inspiration. After being accepted at San Diego State University for Music Composition, De Guzman has continued to compose music for live ensembles and films. His works have been performed by a roster of ensembles and musicians including: The Hausmann Quartet, SDSU Bands and Orchestras, San Diego New Music and SDSU Chamber Groups. De Guzman has also composed for many of SDSU's film students for their semester projects and thesis films.
Graduating with his Bachelor's in Composition from SDSU in 2024, De Guzman will be attending New York University, Steinhardt for his Master's degree in Film Scoring.
